Selviste carries messages for the Silt Hands because a musician can board a barge without raising the questions a courier would. She learned the Clearwind Reel from pole-boat crews who played it across bad crosswinds; its short phrases force a player and listener to breathe evenly instead of locking up under fear or spell-shock. She admits when she misses a note and plays the next one louder.
